Any expecting mother who meets the requirements for cord blood donation, can donate. Exclusion criteria are e.g. a history of chronic infectious disease, complicated delivery, or a family history of genetic diseases. A family´s medical history questionnaire needs to be filled out prior to birth, in order to enable the doctor or midwife to collect the precious stem cells right after birth. Federal law requires parents to sign a consent form before cord blood is collected.
